On April 15, the armed forces of Russia and Tajikistan have begun the joint military exercises on the Harb-Maidon mountain-desert training ground in Khatlon Region of Tajikistan, the press office of the Ministry of Defence of Russia reported.
The main goal of the military exercises is to develop effective strategies to counter terrorist groups and strengthen the border command and control system of military units.
The joint exercises will run until April 18. The units of Russian military base 201 of the Central Military District, in particular mountain riflemen, motorized riflemen, tank crews, artillerymen and reconnaissance officers are taking part in the exercises. They also involve chemical, radiation and biological protection specialists and drone operators. The air crews of Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mi-8MTV5-1 transport and combat helicopters are participating in the military exercises.
Among others, the exercises involve specialists in chemical and biological defence, unmanned aerial vehicles and mobile electronic warfare systems.
