Mudflows flood houses in Tajik villages

The district emergency commissions are working on the spot to reduce the effects of the natural disaster.

A natural disaster hit Tajikistan — mudflows began to flow down from the mountain slopes to several settlements and flooded basements, homestead lands and auxiliary buildings, the press office of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence of Tajikistan reported.

The mudflows intensified near Shurchashma village by nightfall on April 25. Water penetrated in the basements of 4 houses and about 30 auxiliary buildings.

A crew of the regional emergency commission is currently working on the spot to reduce the effects of the natural disaster. No casualties resulting from mudflows have been reported.

The mudflows intensified in Lokhuti village. They damaged an educational institution; water penetrated into three houses. Precipitation extremes caused the water level in the Mazor River to rise significantly. As a result, a 120-m section of the protective dam in Kaltachanor settlement was washed away.
