President of Kyrgyzstan set to turn Republic into transport hub

Sadyr Japarov stated that construction work on a railway, which will connect Kyrgyzstan, China and Uzbekistan, will start soon.

Construction work on a railway, which will connect China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, will start this autumn. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov confirmed this information during his recent visit to Osh Region, Sputnik reported.

Sadyr Japarov expressed belief that the implementation of the project will turn Kyrgyzstan into a major transport hub, which will enable the country to achieve a breakthrough in economic development.

The President admitted that Kyrgyzstan is currently a transport dead-end zone, and the main freight flows go across the territories of Kazakhstan and Russia.

However, the launch of the new railway will open up an opportunity for Kyrgyzstan to appear on the international arena. New transport lines will give the country access to the seaports.

Earlier, the authorities of China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have reached a general agreement on the implementation of the project. The Chinese railway state corporations have proposed taking on the role of the main project implementors.
