Uzbekistan to improve student grant disbursement process

Henceforth, an applicant who shows progress in his studies will be approved for a state grant, regardless of the chosen university.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed radical reforms to the national education system starting from the new academic year. He focused on the reform of state grant disbursement to successful students, the press office of the President of the Republic reported.

A student who scores good marks in exams will be automatically approved for a state grant. In this case, it does not matter at which university a grant recipient wants to study.

The President said the quantity of grants will be determined based on which educational institutions students have excelled academically. Currently, Uzbekistan’s educational system offers 306 specializations in Bachelor’s degree and 625 specializations in Master’s degree, but not all of them meet international quality criteria, which complicates the training of qualified specialists.
