108,000 people evacuated due to floods in Kazakhstan

About 12,000 people have returned to their homes.

The rescue operations in Kazakhstan continue: more than 108,000 people, including 38,700 children, have been evacuated from the flood zones, Zakon.kz reports. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, headed by Chingis Arinov, almost 12,000 people have returned to their homes, but 7,500 people, including 3,000 children, remain in temporary shelters.

Flood control efforts have been ramped up: more than 9.4 million cubic metres of water were pumped and more than 2 million sandbags weighing 1.2 million tons were laid. The hotline of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has received 1,700 calls, and emergency psychological assistance was provided to those in need.

On April 14, special and engineering equipment was sent to West Kazakhstan Region. The Hydrometeorological Service warned a second wave of floods may soon affect North Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan and Atyrau Region.
