Abu Dhabi Fund for Development invited to sponsor construction of Rogun hydropower plant

Cooperation in the implementation of renewable energy projects was discussed at the talks on February 28.

Minister of Economy of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda invited Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi to cooperate in the implementation of renewable energy projects in the Republic. The emphasis was placed on the continuation of the construction of the Rogun hydropower plant (HPP) and the development of the solar and wind power industries in Tajikistan, ASIA-Plus reported.

The representatives of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development showed interest in the proposal for cooperation. This idea was discussed at the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Abu Dhabi.

The parties agreed to promote trade and economic cooperation. The representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan noted that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development is regarded as a potential investor in the Rogun HPP project.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan, $1 billion must be spent annually to complete the construction of the Rogun hydropower plant, and the total project cost is $6.2 billion.
