President of Uzbekistan expresses dissatisfaction at green energy plans

Mirziyoyev said the Minister of Energy and the khokims of the regions should draw conclusions from the outcomes of 2023 and start working harder in this area.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed dissatisfaction at the renewable energy transition plans of the Minister of Energy and the khokims of the regions for the current year. The President ordered two projects of pumped storage power plants be launched and gave specific instructions, Gazeta.uz reported.

The President expressed his opinion during the meeting on green energy issues on February 28. Mirziyoyev emphasised the importance of drawing conclusions from the outcomes of 2023 and redoubling efforts in this area.

He highlighted the need to launch 14 solar and wind power plants 2-3 months ahead of schedule and instructed Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov to take the necessary measures. The President ordered the construction of two pumped storage power plants be launched.

Uzbekistan plans to commission 28 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 8 GW, build 944 km of high-voltage power lines and 6 large substations and install 18 2.2 GW energy storage systems in the next three years.
