Tokayev recognises need to increase civil servants’ wages

The Presidential Youth Personnel Reserve gives young people unique opportunities.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed the forum of the Presidential Youth Personnel Reserve and discussed the important issue of increasing civil servants’ wages with the participants, the Telegram channel of Akorda reported.

Tokayev emphasised the need to make public service more attractive by offering competitive salaries. The President of Kazakhstan noted that civil servants, who works many hours, should receive decent compensation, but “without excess”.

“I believe that civil servants, who work, as a rule, from 8-9 in the morning till 8-9 in the evening, should receive financial compensation, but without excessive wages and bonuses,” Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.

He highlighted the importance of addressing the housing issue for civil servants, citing the experience of other countries.

In his speech, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised the need to engage experienced specialists from various sectors to improve public administration. He supported hybridity in civil service that could offer more flexibility in recruiting qualified employees from the private sector.
