Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan comments on news about demolition of monument to Nazarbayev

The monument changed its ‘place of residence’.

The Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan made a statement refuting the rumours about the demolition of the monument to the first President Nursultan Nazarbayev on the territory of the National Defence University, NUR.KZ reports.

According to the Ministry, led by Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, the decision to rename the University named after Elbasy into the National Defence University of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been adopted recently. Therefore, the monument will be moved to the State Military Historical Museum of the Armed Forces of the Republic after preparatory work is done.

Currently, the monument is kept temporarily in the premises of the Ministry of Defence.

Rumours about the demolition of the monument that was erected on the territory of the University in July 2020 began to spread over social media.
