Kazakhstan takes over CSTO chairmanship in 2024

The Republic replaced Belarus that chaired the CSTO in 2023.

In 2024, Kazakhstan will be chairing the CSTO, having taken over the annually rotating chairmanship from Belarus. President of the Republic Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev identified the priorities of work, Sputnik Kazakhstan quoted the President’s statement.

Tokayev set the main tasks, including cooperation with Member States and countries interested in achieving security, the maintenance of interaction with the UN and its agencies and the enhancement of CIS-SCO cooperation.

The President of Kazakhstan also noted the need to improve the legal framework on military cooperation, including the rapid deployment of the CSTO Collective Forces, develop a military training system and unlock the peacekeeping potential of the Organisation.

All Tokayev’s proposals address new geopolitical challenges.
