Iran set to help Tajikistan develop hydropower

Iran and Tajikistan agreed to cooperate in the hydropower sector.

Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda met with IRI Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian in Dushanbe. Following the talks, the officials of the two countries confirmed that the two countries are ready to promote fruitful cooperation. In particular, the parties agreed to bolster economic and trade ties, set up industrial ventures and interact in transport, science and other sectors, EADaily reports.

Kohir Rasulzoda and Aliakbar Mekhrobien agreed that Iran would invest in Tajikistan’s water supply and energy sectors.

«The Iranian side confirmed its intention to invest in the Sangtuda HPP-2, the Istiklol tunnel and the Rogun HPP,» the publication reports.

The Prime Minister of Tajikistan proposed that the IRI Energy Minister would convey his initiative to facilitate travel between the two countries, noting that after visa-free travel is allowed, the number of flights between Iran and Tajikistan will increase significantly.
