Kazakhstan starts mandatory fingerprint registration for foreign nationals

Fingerprint registration will be optional for citizens of Kazakhstan.

On December 21, the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the law on voluntary fingerprint registration of citizens of Kazakhstan, NUR.KZ reports.

The document will be submitted to the President for signature. A parliamentarian Yevgeniy Bolgert noted that the new law provides for voluntary fingerprint registration for citizens of Kazakhstan with their consent only. Fingerprint registration will be mandatory for seafarers, foreign nationals and stateless persons over 16 years of age in certain cases.

The provisions on fingerprint registration are to be put into force on January 1, 2024.

Also, foreign nationals and stateless persons will be required to personally apply to the registration authorities of Kazakhstan for an individual identification number (IIN), instead of an individual identification number by proxy.
