Uzbekistan to implement project on forest and pasture management in drought conditions

The initiative was presented to the public at the thematic seminar, which was held in Tashkent to mark World Soil Day.

On December 5, a science and practical seminar on innovative methods for preventing soil degradation was held in the capital of Uzbekistan. The event was organised to mark World Soil Day and present a project on sustainable forest and pasture management in dry areas in Uzbekistan, nuz.uz reports.

Deputy Chairman of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Uzbekistan Sherzod Umarov made a presentation of the ongoing soil science projects supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). These projects include an initiative on sustainable forest and pasture management in drought conditions and the project on assessment of the impact of food systems on land use and restoration in the country.

The officials from the Legislative Chamber and Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan took part in the event. The seminar brought together soil scientists from Uzbekistan and other countries. They presented their reports on sustainable water and soil management.
