Tajikistan intends to double hydropower capacity by 2050

The Republic is actively investing in green technologies to reduce the negative impact on climate.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon expressed concern about the adverse effects of climate change on water resources in the country. In his speech at the Summit in Dubai, he noted that Tajikistan is set to double the capacity of hydropower plants, develop eco-friendly technologies and reduce carbon emissions by 2050, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

Rahmon highlighted the water scarcity problem and called on the heads of state to pay attention to this issue. He cited the example of cooperation between Tajikistan and Netherlands that are the upstream and downstream countries, respectively, and solve problems together.

The President of Tajikistan emphasised the need to develop joint assistance mechanisms to help vulnerable countries. They will allow effectively tackling the challenges of climate change and ensuring sustainable development of all countries.
