President of Turkmenistan and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate discuss environmental issues

Serdar Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan pays priority attention to addressing climate change.

On November 28, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov discussed environmental issues with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry during a telephone conversation, the Turkmenistan: Today National News Agency reports.

The main issues under discussion included the preparations for the upcoming Conference COP28 in Dubai, Turkmenistan-U.S. interactions in reducing methane emissions and the legal consolidation of cooperation in this field.

The President noted that the Turkmen side respects the position of foreign countries, including the United States, regarding the measures taken to consolidate international efforts to address this issue.

The interlocutors were unanimous that global environmental challenges set such tasks for governments as the modernisation of national plans and strategies, including the modern standards for greenhouse gas emissions.

The American side thanked Turkmenistan for its efforts to tackle such an important issue as climate change mitigation, with a focus on reducing methane emissions.
