Kazakhstan takes over CSTO Chairmanship on January 1

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev put forward several proposals.

President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev took part in the expanded session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which was held in Minsk, the Telegram channel of Akorda reports.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan will take over the chairmanship of the CSTO on January 1, 2024 and his country is ready to contribute to strengthening the CSTO-based collective security system.

He proposed several priority areas that should be focused on during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship. These include security cooperation of the CSTO with interested countries and international organisations. The President emphasised the importance of maintaining cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies, the CIS and the SCO.

The second priority is to promote cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and extremism. President Tokayev emphasised the need to combat illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances.

The importance of cooperation in preventing conflicts and achieving peace and stability in the region was noted.
