French company to build wind power plant in Kazakhstan

The governments of the two countries signed a special agreement.

A French company will build a wind power plant in southern Kazakhstan as part of bilateral cooperation on global warming, MIR 24 reports. The draft law was supported by the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

The wind power plant will be located near Mirny village in Zhambyl Region and produce 1 GW. 820 billion tenge (about 158 billion rubles) will be allocated for this project.

Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev noted that at the preparation stage of the intergovernmental agreement, it was agreed to engage Kazakh contractors and equipment. The percentage will depend on the selected technologies.

The governments of the two countries signed a special agreement during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Paris last November. It will help Kazakhstan achieve its main goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to 15% and reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the next 7 years.
