The Astana Department for Languages Development and Archives conducted analysis of the foreign names of the constituent parts of the capital city of Kazakhstan. Based on the results of this analysis, it was noted that the streets in Astana are named after the famous political and cultural figures, both local and foreign, SNG.TODAY refers to the Department.
«Basically, the geographical names located on the territory of Kazakhstan are given to the streets. However, the foreign names are given to strengthen international relations,» Head of the Department Saken Esirkep said.
In particular, the streets bear the names of the personalities, including former President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, ex-King of Jordan Hussein bin Talal, French politician Charles de Gaulle, Serbian physicist Nikola Tesla, Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov and Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
The streets are also named after such national heroes and statesmen as Al-Farabi, Beibarys Sultana, Sanzhar Asfendiyarov, Berdibek Sokpakbaev, Azilkhan Nurshaikov, Kalibek Kuanyshbaev, Safuan Shaimerdenov, Sherkhan Murtaza, Alexander Syzganov and Ermukhan Bekmakhanov.
