President of Turkmenistan proposes to establish climate technology center in Central Asia

Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward the initiative at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

On September 19, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. The head of state proposed to establish a Regional Center for Technologies related to Climate Change in Central Asia. This was reported by the news agency «Turkmenistan: Today».

The leader of the republic noted that the UN should pay close attention to environmental problems in the region. According to him, there is no place for inertia in the relevant direction. Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that almost 80 million people live in Central Asia. He added that the states have unique natural resources.

The president proposed to establish the headquarters of the center in Ashgabat. The country is ready to provide the necessary organizational and technical conditions for its work.

The head of the republic also pointed out the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He recalled that Turkmenistan joined the Paris Agreement in 2017. According to him, the state is planning to consider the possibility of joining the Global Methane Pledge.
