Bishkek transitions from coal to gas

Citizens of Bishkek will feel the changes this year.

The authorities of Bishkek are taking measures to combat smog that has become a serious problem in the city. One of the main air pollution sources is the burning of coal in boiler houses, MIR 24 reports.

To solve this problem, heating systems in the city are being transitioned from coal to gas, and 22 boiler houses will operate on natural gas by the end of the year. A new boiler house of school 55, which will replace the old coal boiler and use natural gas, is being built at a fast pace.

The authorities expand green spaces to improve air quality in the city. This year parks and public gardens are to be laid out on an area of 26 hectares. Moreover, the authorities are going to develop the public transport system and replenish the bus fleet with 800 new gas vehicles by the end of the year.

Another solution is the transition of the private sector to gas. The authorities will pay for trenching gas pipes to houses, and local residents will pay for connecting them to gas line systems.

The city administration said air quality will change for the better this year.
