New center of Ahal province to have electric buses and taxis

The initiative was put forward by the head of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

On June 18, chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Milli Gengesh (one of the chambers of parliament) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Ahal province, where he checked the construction of a new administrative center of the region. He suggested launching electric transport there. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today».

Berdimuhamedov noted that it would be good to introduce new services that would include the buses and taxis powered by electric motors in the administrative center. In his opinion, it will make an important contribution to the protection of the environment.

The head of the Halk Maslakhaty instructed officials to work out issues related to the training of electric bus and taxi drivers, and the relevant maintenance specialists. He also pointed out the need to use modern energy-saving technological solutions on street name signs.

The new administrative center of Ahal province is the first «smart city» in Turkmenistan. Its cost is estimated at 1.5 billion US dollars.
