Uzbekistan continues preparing for accession to WTO

Sardor Umurzakov and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization discussed the action programme on Uzbekistan’s to the WTO.

On February 15, Prime Minister and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held online talks with Director-General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The talks focused on preparatory work for the 5th meeting of the Working Party on the Accession of Uzbekistan to the WTO. The Minister emphasised that Uzbekistan viewed its accession to the World Trade Organization as a key priority, set forth in the Country Development Strategy for 2022-2026.

The interlocutors exchanged views on a number of specific issues related to preparation for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO in the framework of the 2022 Roadmap, designed to accelerate WTO accession negotiations.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted that the Organization was ready to provide full support to the initiative of Uzbekistan, including expanding technical assistance in accession negotiations between the Uzbek side and WTO Members.

The participants agreed to continue cooperation on this issue.
