Kyrgyzstan to continue issuing visas to Afghan students

The ministers expressed concern about the regional implications of the situation in Afghanistan.

On December 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev arrived in Uzbekistan for a working visit to take part in the Italy-Central Asia ministerial meeting, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The meeting focused on the current pressing challenges and events in the region, new opportunities for Central Asia, regional security challenges associated with the situation in Afghanistan, international and regional economic cooperation, key priorities in the health sector and the prospects for promoting Central Asia-Italy scientific cooperation.

Touching upon the situation in Afghanistan, Kazakbayev highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive assistance to the multinational Afghan people.

He said the Government of Kyrgyzstan had decided to continue issuing visas to students from Afghanistan.

Noting the importance of strengthening and diversifying trade and economic contacts and enhancing the transport and transit potential of the region, the Minister underscored the important role of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
