Russia ready for decisive measures on Tajik-Afghan border

This was stated by RF Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova at a weekly briefing.

On October 7, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova stated at a weekly briefing that Moscow was ready to take decisive measures, should there be a deterioration of security situation on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the press office of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

She noted that Russia and the Republic of Tajikistan had established close contacts through the defence departments, border services, embassies and consulates. Military Base 201 of the Russian Federation, located on the territory of the Central Asian republic, is equipped with everything necessary to help Dushanbe fight against militants.

Zakharova emphasised that decisive measures would be taken in compliance with the principles of partnerships between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.

As was reported, earlier Moscow called on Dushanbe and Kabul to resolve the conflict on the border. The Russian diplomatic service expressed particular concern over the build-up of troops of the two states to the Tajik-Afghan border. Special attention was paid to the tough statements of the leaders of the two countries.
