Putin and Rahmon talk twice in July about situation in Afghanistan

The leaders of Russia and Tajikistan agreed on further close coordination in this area.

On July 22, Dushanbe initiated a telephone conversation between President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. This is the second time in July that the leaders of the two states have held talks on the security situation in Afghanistan, the press office of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

Rahmon and Putin expressed serious concerns about the deterioration of the security situation in the IRA. The parties agreed to expand close coordination in this area.

Particular attention was paid to the upcoming visit of the President of the Russian Federation to Dushanbe and the implementation of the enormous potential of interstate cooperation in various fields.

On the same day, RF Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrey Rudenko said the Russian Federation would provide Tajikistan with gratuitous assistance in building an outpost on the border with Afghanistan.

As was reported, during the recent telephone conversation with Rahmon on July 5, Putin expressed readiness to help the Central Asian Republic address the challenges associated with the situation in the IRA, noting that assistance would be provided on a bilateral basis and within the CSTO.
