Tajikistan and Botswana established diplomatic relations. Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Jonibek Hikmat and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Botswana Lemogang signed the agreement. This is an important step to promote bilateral relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan emphasised in a statement.
The signing ceremony of the joint communiqué took place in New York on December 6. The participants noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations would contribute to promoting cooperation between Tajikistan and Botswana.
Botswana is hosting the 18th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Tajik delegation is taking part in the session. Several nominations of the Republic, including the traditions of atlas and adras weaving, were inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
