Casino taxes proposed to be used to build gyms in Kyrgyzstan

The Government considered this idea inappropriate and rejected the draft law.

Members of Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan proposed redirecting the tax revenue from casinos in the country to building sports facilities for people with disabilities and supporting disabled athletes. However, the Cabinet of Ministers rejected this draft law, SPORTakipress reported.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov approved the decision of the Government on this draft law. According to the officials, government spending on sports facilities can run into 80 million soms.

However, the draft law does not contain any economic justifications. The Cabinet of Ministers noted that the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan has no resources to monitor the project implementation.

Furthermore, it is prohibited in the Republic to adopt the draft laws which must be financed from the state budget until the source of funding is determined. The officials also noted that state support is provided to professional athletes of any category, regardless of whether they are disabled or not.
