The Director of the UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office Golda El-Khoury arrived in Ashgabat. She was received by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The UNESCO representative presented him with three certificates. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today».
The certificates testify to the inclusion of the «Turkmen-style needlework art», «Sericulture and traditional production of silk for weaving», as well as the «Telling tradition of Molla Ependi anecdotes» in the World Heritage List.
During the meeting it was noted that Turkmenistan and UNESCO are cooperating on the inclusion of Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench, the Parthian Fortresses of Nisa in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In addition, work to include Ashgabat in the Creative Cities Network of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is underway.
It should be noted that the world’s second special UNESCO corner was opened in the Lebap province, Turkmenistan.
