Authorities of Kyrgyzstan to speed up compensation payments to conflict-affected Batken residents

The Prime Minister instructed the government agencies to develop the proposals on dynamic economic development of the region.

On February 25, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov held a meeting of the State Commission for the restoration and development of facilities damaged and destroyed in the armed Kyrgyz-Tajik conflict in Batken Region, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

He raised the issues concerning compensation payments to entrepreneurs affected by the armed conflict last year.

“In fact, not only entrepreneurs, but also ordinary people are asking a question – where and how they can earn a living. This is a very pressing question. Burned furniture, lost or rustled livestock. The measures to finalise the list of victims, develop the Regulations on compensation payments for damages and pay compensation need to be taken in a short time,” Zhaparov said.

The Chairman of the Government instructed the government agencies to develop the proposals on business forums with China and Uzbekistan, noting that Batken Region should become an epicentre of dynamic economic development and inflows of foreign investment.
