Sadyr Japarov raises regional security issues at CSTO session

Kyrgyzstan remains committed to resolving any disputes exclusively by peaceful means.

On November 23, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov took part in the regular session of the CSTO CSC in Yerevan. In his speech, the President emphasised that the ideas of extremism are actively propagating, and transnational organized crime is growing, which creates new epicentres of crisis posing a direct threat to security of the CSTO Members, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

In this context, Japarov noted that his country is interested in strengthening the potential of the CSTO as a multifunctional regional organisation responsible for maintaining security and stability in the region.

“Against the background of global geopolitical instability and the impact of negative processes on security and stability of the CSTO Members, we should fear a crisis of confidence within the CSTO,” Japarov said.

He noted that the fragmentation of the friendly and good neighbourly peoples of the region can be used by external players to the detriment of the interests of the CSTO Members, which is unacceptable. In this regard, Japarov proposed strengthening security on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
