Tajikistan and Russia to build unified air defence system

The defence ministries of the two countries signed an agreement on the margins of the meeting of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers.

On April 27, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan Sherali Mirzo and Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu signed an agreement on a regional unified air defence system on the margins of the meeting of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers, the press office of the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan reported.

The defence ministers discussed the aspects of military and military technical cooperation between the states. Particular attention was paid to pursuing joint efforts against terrorism and strengthening control along the Tajik-Afghan border.

Speaking at the meeting of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers, Shoigu said the security situation in the IRA was deteriorating and informed that Tajikistan and Russia were carrying out joint exercises to deter potential threats against the background of the current situation in Afghanistan.

Noting that the Russian Federation was ready to increase the quota of military servicemen from Tajikistan who would study at military higher educational institutions, Sergei Shoigu added that the RF Ministry of Defence expected the representatives from Tajikistan to take part in the Zapad-2021 strategic manoeuvres.
