Construction of Centre for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent nears completion

The President said the Centre will be an intellectual space that unites the past, present and future.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Centre for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, the construction of which is nearing completion. He emphasised that the Centre will be not only a repository of historical relics, but also an intellectual space for studying the past and identifying new areas of development, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The construction began in 2018 on the initiative of the President. The building complex is designed in a traditional architectural style: a three-storey building decorated with a 65-meter-high dome and 34-meter-high portals on four sides.

The main element will be the Koran Hall, where Mushaf of Usman, one of the most important relics of the Islamic world, will be kept. The collection will feature the copies of the Koran of different epochs, translations into the old Uzbek language and rare manuscripts. The complex will include sections: Pre-Islamic Civilizations, The First Renaissance, The Second Renaissance, Uzbekistan in the 20th Century and New Uzbekistan — New Renaissance.

The President noted the need to widely use historical materials to be popularised among young people and presented to the world community. The exhibits will include artifacts, photographs, manuscripts and multimedia technologies, spotlighting the achievements of scientists and thinkers of different epochs.
