CIS Executive Committee observers to arrive for parliamentary elections in Tajikistan

On March 2, the elections to the lower house of Parliament and the chambers of people’s deputies in the regions, cities and districts will be held.

The CIS Executive Committee is deploying an Observation Mission for the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan, which will be held on March 2. CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev noted that preparatory work for the election process has started, and the Observation Mission will help ensure compliance of the elections with the principles of democracy, Sputnik reports.

In accordance with the Decree of President Emomali Rahmon dated December 4, the elections not only to the lower house of Parliament, but also to the representative bodies in the regions, cities and rural areas will be held. The elections to the upper house of Parliament will be held on March 28.

The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Tajikistan has approved the procedure for the participation of national and international observers. The CIS Observation Mission will be an important element in ensuring transparency and compliance of the election process with the principles of democracy.
