The Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan, headed by Bakhodur Sheralizoda, held a meeting to discuss the draft Environmental Code. The new document is designed to ensure the constitutional right of citizens to a healthy environment and improve national environmental laws, the press office of the Committee reported.
The Code is to bring national laws in line with international environmental requirements. When preparing the draft Code, the authors conducted analysis of current requirements and international practices in environmental protection and took into account the current socio-economic situation in the country.
An ad-hoc commission consisting of specialists and experts was set up to prepare the draft Code. The document meets legislative and regulatory requirements and contains the major points discussed.
