Kyrgyzstan and UNDP discuss sustainable mountain development

The Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions aims to support mountain communities and improve the quality of life in the mountain regions.

On January 20, Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan for the Implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions Dinara Kemelova met with Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan Alexandra Solovyova. The main issues under discussion included ongoing cooperation and interaction plans in the framework of the sustainable mountain development initiative, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The interlocutors focused on improving the socio-economic situation in the mountain regions. Providing access to infrastructure, energy, healthcare, water, sanitation and other social services is a priority area. Dinara Kemelova presented the list of international events aimed at supporting sustainable development in the mountain regions.

Alexandra Solovyova confirmed that UNDP is committed to further cooperation and ready to take an active part in the implementation of joint projects. She noted the importance of taking actions to improve the living conditions of mountain communities and support women and vulnerable groups. 

The interlocutors agreed to continue active cooperation in protecting mountain ecosystems, conducting research and implementing measures to promote sustainable development in the mountain regions.
