Tajikistan invests $1.7 billion in 18 energy projects

It is planned to construct and reconstruct power plants, introduce billing systems and electrify rural areas.

The Government of Tajikistan is implementing the energy sector development programme, consisting of 18 investment projects worth $1.7 billion. The programme envisages building new facilities, modernising the existing power plants and developing infrastructure, Avesta reports.

Speaking at the government meeting on January 17, President Emomali Rahmon noted the progress in modernising the largest hydropower plants in the country.

After the reconstruction of the Nurek and Kairakkum hydropower plants is completed, their total capacity will increase by 64 megawatts. The total value of work to be done on these facilities is about 7 billion somoni.

In 2025, it is planned to launch construction of a 200 MW solar power plant in Sughd Region and complete the construction of the Sebzor hydropower plant. The major project — the Rogun hydropower plant is half complete. This hydropower plant will enable Tajikistan to achieve energy independence by 2027.
