Kazakhstan is going to implement a unique international tourism project that will offer a convenient route from Lake Kanas to Lake Markakol, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.
Lake Kanas in Xinjiang (China) attracts up to 10 million tourists annually. Lake Markakol in East Kazakhstan Region with similar landscape is much larger in size, which significantly enhances its tourism potential. However, currently, the lake lacks the necessary infrastructure.
The joining to the successful ongoing project in Kanas will give a new impetus to boost tourism in the region. This route is expected to attract thousands of tourists.
«We are currently working on opening a new border crossing near Terekty village and building a direct road to the lake,» East Kazakhstan Region Akim Yermek Kosherbayev said.
It is planned to build airports in Katon-Karagay and Zaysan, which will contribute to boosting tourism in several areas of the region. The construction of these air harbours will start next year.
