Tajikistan shortens list of jobs banned for women

The authorities of Tajikistan note that this will expand opportunities for women and help boost the national economy.

Deputy Minister of Labour and Migration of Tajikistan Shakhnoza Nodiri announced plans to revise the list of jobs banned for women. According to her, technology development and automation have made many jobs, which used to be dangerous, safer, Avesta reports.

Shortening the list of banned jobs will not only expand opportunities for women, but also benefit the national economy, allowing more citizens to engage in professional activity of their choice, Nodiri emphasised.

She noted that restricting the types of jobs women can undertake has transformed from a protective measure into an obstacle to their business activity.

Last year, this list was shortened to 194 jobs in 22 sectors. The working group is going to refine the list. Furthermore, grant funding for women entrepreneurs in Khatlon Region increased from 15,000 to 25,000 somoni.
