President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon proposed establishing a Regional Glaciology Coordination Centre in Dushanbe, Sputnik reported.
The President spoke on this topic at the Summit of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), which is currently taking place in Baku. He called on other countries to intensify efforts to fight the climate crisis. In his speech, Emomali Rahmon focused on the impacts of melting glaciers.
Rahmon emphasised that the UN General Assembly declared the period from 2025 to 2034 as the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences. For this reason, the President proposed establishing a Regional Glaciology Coordination Centre in Dushanbe under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
