President of Uzbekistan puts forward proposals at UN Conference in Baku

The leader of the Republic said Uzbekistan plans to achieve carbon neutrality.

In his speech at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward an initiative to establish several international institutions to combat climate change. He proposed establishing an International Centre for Climate-Induced Loss and Damage Assessment that will provide technical assistance to developing countries in identifying the challenges of climate change, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Particular attention was paid to preserving water resources. Citing the example of the Aral Sea crisis, Uzbekistan proposed developing a Declaration of Commitments on Health and Environmental Safety of River Ecosystems under the auspices of the UN.

Tashkent is ready to provide a platform for the first forum of the Alliance of Climate Capitals of the World, being created to exchange experiences in urban sustainability. On May 15, 2025, it is planned to hold a Global Festival of Green Digital Initiatives in the Aral Sea region to mark International Climate Day.
