President of Kyrgyzstan calls on BRICS members to modernise payment infrastructure

The Kyrgyz leader said this will contribute to economic development and trade growth.

On October 24, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov put forward a number of ideas and initiatives at the first expanded plenary session of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan. In his speech, he called on the BRICS Member States to modernise the existing payment infrastructure, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Japarov emphasised that the Republic is set to build a fair and non-discriminatory international economic order that will give all countries access to world economic resources and modern technologies. He said trade and economic growth should be promoted through developing alternative mechanisms for cross-border payments within BRICS and modernising the payment infrastructure.

The President noted that Kyrgyzstan is seeking to cooperate with the New Development Bank, particularly in financing infrastructure projects and sustainable development. He expressed belief that the role of this bank in combating poverty, developing infrastructure and building resilience of countries to global challenges will grow.

Kyrgyzstan fully supports the BRICS’s goals of encouraging entrepreneurship, combating climate change and its impacts and promoting eco-friendly technologies, Japarov said. Noting that mountainous countries are particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate change, he informed that the Kyrgyz authorities have initiated the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023-2027 that has been approved by the UN General Assembly.
