UN helps Kyrgyzstan launch digital health programme

It will let over 200,000 patients view their test results online.

On October 2, Kyrgyzstan officially announced a digital health programme developed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic in cooperation with the United Nations. The main objective of this initiative is to improve Kyrgyzstan’s health sector through integrating modern digital systems, the press office of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported.

This programme is financed by the UN SDG Fund with the support of the European Union, Spain and Sweden. The total project budget is $4.03 million for 2024-2027. It is aimed at modernising digital health systems, improving digital public services and expanding telehealth.

As part of this initiative, 3 million vaccination records will be linked to an electronic health records platform, which will ensure vaccination for 225,000 children. It will let over 200,000 patients view their test results online.

The programme will provide digital certificates to 120,000 people with disabilities and give access to digital sick leave certificates for 280,000 people. Telemedicine units will provide medical consultations to over 700,000 children in 10 districts of the country. 60 healthcare institutions will provide assistance to 140,000 mothers and newborns by connecting them to the electronic health records (EHR) platform.

Deputy Minister for Digital Development Bakyt Jangaziyev noted that the initiative will significantly improve access to health data and improve the health system efficiency. UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan Antje Grawe emphasised that digital technologies are important for reducing the digital divide and achieving sustainable development.
