On September 24, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov delivered a speech at the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He called on UN Member States to join efforts to fight poverty at the global level, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.
In his speech, Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the norms of international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. He emphasised the need to jointly address global economic, climate change and social challenges. The President highlighted key issues requiring special attention, including climate change, a growing inequality and the threats to food security.
The President noted that the world is currently experiencing a lack of progress in assisting poor and vulnerable countries. He emphasised that economic inequality is on the rise, and this problem remains unresolved. Japarov focused on the significant funding gaps facing the regions of South Asia, Latin America and Africa, as well as the lack of support from the international community.
To solve the problem, he urged UN Member States to invest targeted funds in in the development of poor countries and share technology and expertise with them. Poor countries should commit to the efficient use of resources provided. They should also take a more active part in international organisations on sustainable development.
