President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon delivered a speech at the Summit of the Future in New York. He stated that the world community needs to come to active international cooperation in the fight against modern challenges and solve urgent problems, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.
Rahmon focused on the need to join international efforts to combat climate change and poverty. He noted that these issues are currently of key importance for mankind and require an integrated approach and considerable resources.
The President emphasised that sanitation and water supply problems in different countries, particularly in Central Asia, have reached critical levels. He called on UN Member States to step up their work in the framework of the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development», highlighting the importance of addressing these issues to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity.
Rahmon proposed adopting a special resolution «A Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations». He emphasised that conflict resolution and restoration of stability should be the key priorities of the UN.
