Tajikistan to restrict power supply to its residents

Power specialists forecast a power shortfall of about 1 billion kilowatt-hours in the Republic this year.

Starting September 22, 2024, Tajikistan will restrict power supply to the population ‘where necessary’. This announcement was placed on the official page of the Barki Tojik Open Stock Holding Company on social media, Fergana reports.

According to power specialists, the lack of precipitation last year led to a drop in the water level in the areas adjacent to the Vakhsh River estuary.

Surging electricity demand from residents and industrial enterprises is a cause for a seasonal power shortfall.

According to experts, a power shortfall of about 1 billion kilowatt-hours is expected this year. According to the press office of Barki Tojik, the practice of previous seasons has shown that power supply needs to be restricted during the warmer season to ensure reliable power supply during the cold season. The company’s specialists urged residents of Tajikistan to consume electricity sparingly during the autumn and winter months.
