Over 441 hectares of parks and green belts to be created in capital of Uzbekistan

The initiative will be implemented under the action programme to improve ambient air quality in Tashkent.

On September 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the proposals of the Government for the protection of the environment. The idea of creating parks and green belts with a total area of 441 hectares in Tashkent and its environs was put forward at the meeting, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Currently, the authorities of Uzbekistan are working on 2 major programmes aimed at reducing anthropogenic impacts and improving ambient air quality. The national programme to combat dust storms and mitigate their impacts is designed for 2024-2030.

This programme envisages landscaping Tashkent and adjacent territories by creating green belts and parks with an area of 441 hectares.

It was also proposed that a new requirement should be set to the design of buildings over 12 metres high or with a total area of over 500 square metres: at least 25% of the adjacent territory must be planted.

Moreover, the industrial enterprises that have a significant environmental impact will be required to create green belts.
