Kazakhstan re-establishes Hydrogeological Service

President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasises that water resources are no less important for the country than oil.

The National Hydrogeological Service was established under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation at the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers reported in social media.

“Water resources are no less important for our country than oil, gas or metals. I believe that a separate department should deal with the effective development of the water management system,” Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said earlier.

To date, the Department with two divisions, which are responsible for establishing the Service, has been set up.

The National Hydrogeological Service will be committed to exploring and monitoring groundwater resources, ensuring effective resource management and preventing resource depletion. In the future, it is planned to use groundwater resources to supply drinking water, irrigate farmland and support agriculture, with strict control over resources.
