On August 27, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the energy efficiency challenges and the expanded renewable energy use. The President ordered energy saving systems be installed in over 1 million households, the press office of the President of the Republic reported.
It was emphasised that despite building power plants and expanding capacity, the country continues experiencing an energy shortage. With the aim of addressing the shortage, the country is introducing new energy saving technologies and taking measures to conserve electricity. Solar panels and power plants are being installed widely.
Mirziyoyev ordered heating systems in 1 million households be replaced with more efficient energy saving analogues. He said the regional khokimiyats and the Energy Inspectorate will be responsible for fulfilling these tasks. He instructed that the enterprises, which are the largest gas consumers, use energy saving technologies.
This year, it is planned to install renewable energy units with a total capacity of 182 MW for the population and 791 MW for entrepreneurs. However, this work is progressing slowly in some regions. The President warned the officials and clarified that the installation of renewable energy units is a state policy aspect.
