SDMK announces name of acting mufti of Kyrgyzstan

The charter of the SDMK states that duties are automatically transferred to the deputy, in case of leaving the position of the mufti.

On February 12, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan informed that the ulema council accepted the resignation of the country’s mufti Maksatbek azhy Toktomushev, who left his post because of the criminal case against him. In this regard, the temporary duties of the Kyrgyz mufti will be performed by his deputy, Zhorobay azhy Shergazyev, as reported by the press office of the SDMK

Taking into account the charter of the SDMK, if for any reason a mufti leaves office, then the performance of his duties automatically transfers to his deputy until a new mufti is elected.

Zhorobay Shergaziev is 46 years old. He was born in the Batken region. He started his career in the Muftiate of Egypt in 2009. For the last 5 years, he has been the Deputy Mufti of Kyrgyzstan.

It must be added that on February 10, in the evening, officials of the state committee detained the Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Maksat azhy Toktomushev on suspicion of involvement in the selfish use of funds contributed by pilgrims for the Hajj by providing private financial institutions with loans of more than 100 million soms and receiving monthly percentage allowances.
