Candidate for post of prime minister approved by majority of parliament

At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Maripov said that he would soon present the composition of the Cabinet.

On February 1, the majority of the parliament of Kyrgyzstan supported the candidacy of Ulukbek Maripov for the post of the prime minister of the country. He was nominated by the Republic Ata-Jurt faction. Maripov said that he would present the list of future ministers at the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, which will be held on February 3, as reported by the press office of the Kyrgyz parliament.

During the meeting the candidate announced his intention to change the structure and composition of the government. Thus, there will be 16 members of the Cabinet instead of the current 22, there may be fewer deputy prime ministers, and reforms will be carried out at the institutions subordinate to the Cabinet.

It should be noted that the majority of the present deputies voted for the approval of Maripov for the post of head of the Cabinet. Now, according to the law, his candidacy must be approved by the full composition of parliament and the president of the country.

Maripov is the current head of the Audit Chamber of Kyrgyzstan. Previously he worked at the Ministry of Emergencies and the Ministry of Finance. Within four years he had been an assistant to ex-president Almazbek Atambayev.
